Kwanzaa is an African-American Holiday.  It is the culmination of the previous year’s work, a time to reflect on the successes and failures, a time to set new goals.

Kwanzaa is the time we set aside to really listen to the voices of the ancestors, who guide us through-out the year.

Kwanzaa is the African-American Belief System at work in the 21st Century.

In December 1977, this author attended a meeting of *Salsa Soul Sisters, Inc. and suggested that, “We should be celebrating Kwanzaa as a cultural holiday”.  Our Elder, Sister Maua Flowers liked the idea.  She said, “If this sister wants to celebrate Kwanzaa, then I suggest she bring it here.”  Thus, Kwanzaa was born in the LGBTQ family.

*The oldest known lesbian of color organization in the world.
